He shakes his head a little to try and ward off any possible protests. "Keep in mind that I won't stay hurt, no matter what happens. Okay? We're safe."

Do you think we should investigate this poisoning? I investigate murders where I come from. Maybe we can find out who wanted to hurt Henry. He has a lot of enemies after the big monster attack, so there will be a lot of suspects.

Yes, please. His warden may already know.

Henry told me it didn't matter who poisoned him. I beg to differ. I want whoever it was to suffer.

Now there is a very good point. It's not like he's had the chance to consider doing this with someone who had instant healing before.

What he does know is he's never woken up from one to a hug before and that sounds actually great.

If it's another inmate, learning to resolve their emotional responses without murder might be what they're here to learn for graduation. Don't you think it would be more productive for your graduation and theirs if we try to show them that?

I think if anyone hurts Henry again, I'm going to tear them limb from limb. This individual could serve as an example.

It's this person's Warden that's responsible for that, though. Unless they are a Warden. Has anyone been demoted lately?

No, but the Admiral makes no mention of that until pairings on the 15th and 30th of each month. So it could be possible, just..hidden for now.

Wardens cannot kill inmates. And someone means to kill Henry, so I wish to make an example of their flesh.

What if they want to kill Henry to make an example because Henry hurt their friend that they love?

It was his right to as the strongest inmate on this ship! But now someone else seeks to refute that by poisoning him, and I have to show them that we aren't to be messed with.

That's how violence perpetuates endlessly.

It's also how you stop directed attacks on your people. If the wardens can't find the poisoner, how do we establish Henry is being properly protected?

Will reaches up to brush an errant strand of hair back on Malcolm's head, and then presses a kiss to that cleared spot. "Sounds like a good time to try and experiment a little, then. I'll see what I can do when we reach the morning."

He is telling himself to not restrain the arms, though. That's much less hug-like and much more straitjacket-like. He doesn't know about Malcolm, but he wouldn't appreciate waking up to that.

He smiles and tugs Malcolm gently towards the bed. "I assume you'll still want the restraints on? Minimize the risk of finding out what's on the other side of the window and all," he says, a little playfully.

Malcolm breathes out a laugh, relaxing a little more, and he nods.

“I’d feel safer,” he admits. “In that I’d feel like we were both…. safer.”

He'd forgotten until just now that some people actually have bedtime routines and don't just pass out whenever.

Gotta… dial down the mania and psychoses before going out in public,” he jokes weakly. “But if you’re awake when I’m not, help yourself to anything,” he says, gesturing towards the kitchen before pulling his legs up onto the bed and shuffling under the blanket before picking up one of the cuffs to slip over his wrist and work to fasten. “And let me know if you get… uncomfortable. In any sense of the word.”
