I think he was scared, and he was just... Done with me. No one knew what to do back then.

I try not to blame him.

Will laughs in return. "I know, I know. I'm sure we'll get to it. You can try on your crime scene too, even if I can't use it to help me. Maybe it'll give you a feel for what it'll be like the next time you pick up a case."

He has another apple slice, savoring the taste of the cheese against it this time.

"Interesting," Malcolm says. "If I try it on a case I know already first, it might help me... adapt."

"That's a good point. You can see if the stench of death gets overwhelming for you. Not that it ever seemed to bother Hannibal." He shakes his head, somewhat at himself.

"You'll probably be just fine. I can't imagine a wolf having a tough time with all of that. Maybe the cleaning agents used to try and hide a crime scene?"

"Lark suggested I might be able to pick up a scent associated with the killer," Malcolm tells him. "Which means I'll have to learn to... ignore the typical scents associated with crime scenes."

Um... Whenever? I don't really have a job, all of the things that I would have had real qualifications for were filled. And I don't have an inmate yet either.

Okay. I’ll… meet you at the counselling office. Ten minutes?

[He puts down the books he was shelving and heads there, hesitating with his hand on the door handle before taking a breath and pushing it open, moving to sit behind his desk for the first time in months. He feels small there, but he takes out his notebook and a pencil.]

[She's not a lot more sanguine when she walks in than he is. In fact she looks extremely uncomfortable.

Hera closes the door behind her, wipes her palms against the too-large pop-culture-reference t-shirt she stole from Eiffel's room and then tucks them into the pockets of her jeans. She's an even five feet tall.]

I have no idea how this works. The company made our crew do regular psychiatric evaluation forms and I had a whole battery of tests and psychological measurements forced on me before they decided where to assign me after my initial creation and training but I've never done... this.

It is inconvenient. [A sullen mutter. She pulls her hands out of her pockets and puts them back in again as she starts to explore his office a little, expecting he'll say something if she touches anything she shouldn't.]

...I don't know. If you'd never had either of them before which one would you go with?

Hot chocolate. It’s a favourite among people with new mouths.

She gives him a slightly suspicious look. "I can't tell if you're messing with me or not."

She doesn't have a good enough read of his biometrics.

“I will always tell you the truth as I know it,” Malcolm vows.

That's an interesting statement. And probably one of the more keep-able promises she's ever heard. "Okay. Hot chocolate."

She picks a book off of the nearest shelf and rifles through the pages without really looking at them. It's incredibly strange, holding a book. Knowing that it's full of hardcopy information she could transfer to her memory if she wanted to take the time to scan the pages. She can feel it. The weight of the thing. There's something strange and magical about knowledge being heavy.

"How does this work?"

Malcolm pauses as he gets up from his desk.

“…The book?”

"What? No." She closes it gently and slides it back onto the shelf. "The... counseling thing. I understand it as a general concept, it's basically personal reprogramming, but I don't know how it works."
