There was something in that body language that hit Malcolm's trained (and personally experienced) eye as the sword and shield of a man who had held his head high on a walk of shame when he'd been sent to slink there in disgrace.

For once in his life, he didn't immediately voice that observation.

"Lieutenant Gil Arroyo," Malcolm said instead. "But be forewarned that he isn't going to be happy about the, um, initiative I've taken." He spread his hands expansively. "But I'm only a consultant."
