Once they were safely away from the table, Malcolm leaned close enough to keep his voice low as they moved through the ballroom. "I am so so sorry about this. It is way more mortifying than I was expecting and I can tell you want to leave and I don't blame you even a little bit," he rambled. "I don't remember these things being like this and at the same time, I think they've always been exactly like this."
