I'm not trying to be ominous. Wherever you prefer.

Wherever I prefer? You haven’t really thought this through, have you?

I thought about knocking on you front door but I thought that would give the wrong impression.

[abrightboy]

I just thought that - after the dream - you’d be a lot more wary of me and what we call ‘secondary locations’.

[bossyboiler]

You're not your father and I thought you'd pick someplace public. There's a coffeeshop called Any Beans Necessary, are you familiar?

[ Hey, Kate? Isn't that close to the place where Martin killed you in the dreamscape? Yes. Yes, it is. ]

Again, not trying to be ominous.

I’m familiar. See you there in twenty minutes.

[ Onward to action spam! Kate arrives fifteen minutes later in order to have time to order her vanilla latte and pick a table in a corner. ]

[Malcolm walks in a few moments later, orders a mocha, then joins her. He doesn’t say anything; she asked to see him. He sips his drink expectantly.]

[bossyboiler]

[ It's the calm before the storm. ]

Thank you for coming. I'm glad that you were able to make it.

[ She's polite, of course. He didn't have to come but in all honesty it's best for them if they do this in public. It might keep a scene from forming and they are off ADI premises. ]

Can you read something for me?

[ From inside her brown handbag, she pulls out her phone. She brings up the text messages before sliding her phone across the table to Malcolm with a series of text messages pulled up. Aside from some bad selfies and some mindless but cute phone games, there's nothing on her phone that's incriminating.

She doesn't say anything else. Kate needs to see his reaction to that first. ]

[Malcolm reads the messages, then holds up the phone.]

Creepy. Are you looking for help tracking down who sent them?

[bossyboiler]

Yes. I want to know who you told.

[ Because he has to have told someone, if not ADI, she wants to know who. ]

[abrightboy]

I’m not usually one to scold and tell. [He shrugs.] This person says they saw you. How do you know they didn’t?

[bossyboiler]

[ The not usually in question for references' sake! ]

Not usually? What does that mean?

[ Kate would like to believe him, that he really would not tell ADI about her as he had stated previously. ]

I was careful with the exception of you. Did you see anyone else watching me?

[abrightboy]

[It was definitely not ADI that he told.]

I was watching you. Anyone else could have been. It was a crowded place.

[bossyboiler]

No one was paying attention to me. I made certain that it was all focused on the Mime.

[ Who had never gave such a convincing performance in their life! Because it had been fake thanks to Kate. ]

I was... careful in choosing him.

[ She is not proud to admit this. She looks away in shame. Kate hates all of this. She especially hates knowing that this is all her fault. If only she had been strong enough to resist. ]

I saw you.

[bossyboiler]

You did. I am convinced that you are the only one unless you saw someone else watching me and decided to wait until now to bring it up.

[ For this answer, she's going to be carefully watching his face and looking for any signs of falsehoods. ]

[abrightboy]

You were engrossed in what you were doing by then. And I was engrossed in watching you. You can't say nobody else saw you in a public place.

[bossyboiler]

I... [ She can't say that she's one-hundred percent certain that no one else saw her that evening. Doubt has crept in and now that percentage is closer to ninety than it is to one-hundred. ] I can't completely ignore the possibility.

How do I know that you're being truthful and not trying to turn me down the wrong path?

[abrightboy]

What would I have to gain from doing that? It's what we in the investigatory field refer to as 'motive' and I don't have any.

[bossyboiler]

[ She shakes her head. ] I don't know. All I know is that I got that text the day everyone woke up.
