Malcolm just looks at him. What Neal said to him was like 'I asked the Admiral to cure your nose' or 'I asked the Admiral to cure your breathing'. It's been part of his functioning for so long, it's like it's part of him. A frustrating, annoying, sometimes debilitating part of him.

.... Maybe that's what having a period is like, he briefly muses.

Then he blinks.

"What?"

[conning]

"I asked the Admiral to cure your night terrors?" It's slightly guilty. A little anxious. He could ask to have it undone, probably, but-- "I don't know if it will last past the end of... whatever this is, but if it does--and even if it doesn't maybe you can ask for yourself."

"You have to graduate someone to ask the Admiral for a wish," Malcolm points out. Did this whole kerfuffle mean he was just giving them out for free?

[conning]

“I think something like this… works the same as taking away or giving back someone’s superhuman abilities.” He drifts over and sits down on his couch, and is immediately boarded by George. “A wish—that’s something about the world, something…”

He gestures at the air. “Something that changes a fundamental aspect of reality.”

"This has been a fundamental aspect of reality for me since I was eleven," Malcolm tells him. "But. Thank you. Even if it doesn't work."

[conning]

He strokes George’s fur, frowning. “The abilities people have involuntarily taken away from them here are part of their personal reality.”

Neal shrugs one shoulder awkwardly. “But that part of your reality… hurts you.”

He keeps his eyes on George. “You’re welcome.”
