I don’t want a go-between and I don’t want to talk to him. I thought maybe a crusader like you would have told him he was out of line to talk to one of your friends that way.

I think he was wrong about you not caring about anybody. I don't think he was wrong about you being way too up your own ass sometimes.

[He just looks at her for a second, then nods, then gets up again.]

I think that’s all the understanding I can manage for one day. We’ll have to do this again at some point.

[This time, his strides towards the elevator are purposeful.]

[She's surging to her feet before she even fully realizes what she's doing, calling after him.]

He needed you, and it was like you didn't even notice he was in the room. So yeah, Eiffel was a dick, but maybe you should think about how it was out of line for you to treat his friend the way you did, too.

[He turns and it’s the first time she’ll have ever seen real anger on his face.]

No. You don’t know what he needed in that moment. I was doing what he asked me to do. I was respecting his boundaries and not assuming his needs. What he wanted in that moment was not to have his emotions be a spectacle, so he could have a little privacy to rein them in. So good job on that front. A+ friendship and Wardening combo.

[He gives her a sarcastic thumbs up, then turns and presses the elevator button more forcefully than strictly necessary.]

That whole waste of time was a real triumph for friendship, wasn’t it? [He looks over his shoulder at her and adds witheringly:] Well. For Lestat’s friends, anyway.

Having his emotions be a-- what are you talking about? And what the hell does de Lioncourt have to do with any of this? It's like you're mad about five different things right now, and you're just throwing them around randomly to see what sticks.

Eiffel's outburst was at the Lestat meeting. You and Eiffel assuming Neal's needs and what he expected from me happened at the Lestat meeting. That's the thing you just told me I deserved his public dressing down for at the Lestat meeting. They were a direct result of the content of the Lestat meeting. The audience of my peers that got to witness it were there to attend the Lestat meeting. It's one thing. And going to that meeting was otherwise useless, so there wasn't even a plus side to balance it out. It's got nothing to actually do with Lestat, but it all has to do with the stupid nothing meeting we had about him.

No. That's part of the point. I'm not allowed. I'm not allowed to make even the most obvious observation about anyone without getting punched or exsanguinated or threatened. Imagine if I screamed terrible insults in people's faces. Actually... maybe I should start. That's a good note. People are fine with that.

I'm not storming off. Serious and important work like this can't be done all at once or by force. I'm suggesting leaving it where we're ahead and picking it up another time. We can even set a day to pick it up again. We can do it weekly. But I can't do any more of this right now. I'm bruised. You're relentless.

I'm not usually. I usually don't do this; most people I don't like having conversations with for more than five minutes. But you don't give up, and you're relentless, so I figured that's what you would, I don't know, respond to.

I'm not relentless like that. Also I'm just... disappointed, okay? I'm disappointed that everything that hurts me is just okay by everyone in the end. What was really done about Lestat? Nothing. What was done about Laura? Even less, officially. What was done about Eiffel? Also nothing. The only people who do care are my inmates and I had to punish Kikimora for it.

[He turns and looks at Shaw, finally.] Neal asked Eiffel to apologize to me. But he hasn't. The person he was 'protecting'. So was it about protecting Neal or was it about an opportunity to hurt me because he was looking for one? Like Laura. [He shrugs.] Something to consider. [He turns back to the elevator doors.]

Laura actually attacked me with even less provocation than Lestat did. But okay. So what is the threshold of damage where hurting people just to hurt them becomes unacceptable to you? I don't want to waste your time with piddly crap.

Bright, he drained enough blood from you that you were mentally compromised and you almost passed out. Or you completely passed out; did you pass out?

I sort of teetered on the edge of consciousness for a while there. And if I didn’t get healing from Gaius after that, Laura would have broken my face. And if I got healing before that, then I probably wouldn’t have lost a dangerous amount of blood. Oh. Here’s a question then. If I had healing but Lestat didn’t know it and he did the exact same thing to me, would it have been acceptable then?
