"What?" She shakes her head. "No. Goddamnit. I did not. I came here to talk." But now she's not sure. She doubts herself. Maybe she had on a subconscious level. Maybe she had without even realizing it. "I wouldn't do that."

“Then why tell me you learned something interesting if you weren’t going to tell me what it was?” Malcolm challenges.

[bossyboiler]

"I don't know" she replies. It is the sad truth. She had needed someone to talk to but what if she had been manipulated into this? "Okay. Okay. I'm going to tell you but you have to swear to me on whatever you hold most dear that you won't tell Winter or anyone else what I'm about to tell you. Swear it."

“I promise,” he tells her gravely.

[bossyboiler]

"Winter has trigger words. I don't know what they are. He doesn't know what they are."

[abrightboy]

“How do you know he has them, then?” Malcolm asks carefully.

[bossyboiler]

"Because he asked Yelena if she knew what they were."

[abrightboy]

"And she didn't," he concludes. The reason Kate doesn't know. "How did you use that knowledge to feed the Entity?"

[bossyboiler]

She shakes her head a little. "I'm not quite sure but it's a secret. And from what research that I've done, the Eye likes dangerous secrets."

[abrightboy]

"Then doesn't that mean the sensible way to avoid feeding the Eye is not to have secrets, dangerous or otherwise?" Malcolm asks logically.

[bossyboiler]

"What do you do if the secret isn't yours to share? I mean, I shouldn't tell you that Winter. It's not my story. But if I keep it to myself I'm feeding the Eye." Kate groans. This is an incredibly difficult position to be in.

[abrightboy]

"If you really had kept it to yourself, you wouldn't be feeding the Eye. It's the dangling that stirs the emotional reaction it's looking for." He shrugs a shoulder. "I won't make you tell me Winter's secrets, but they would be safe with me. I'm his friend," Malcolm points out.

[bossyboiler]

"That's it. I've told you what I know." She shrugs. She doesn't understand why Malcolm won't tell her what a horrible person she is.

"And how do you feel?" Malcolm asks her.

[bossyboiler]

"Terrible, Malcolm. I feel terrible."

[abrightboy]

"That's what makes you not a bad person," Malcolm informs her.

She doesn't feel better. "Are you sure?"

[abrightboy]

“Yeah. I’m pretty much an expert on bad people and you’re not one,” he replies.

[bossyboiler]

"I feel like a bad person though."

[abrightboy]

"Yeah, well. Bad people don't," he informs her.

[bossyboiler]

"Are you sure?" Because despite what he says she feels like a horrible one.

[abrightboy]

"I literally specialize in the psychology of Very Bad People," he reminds her.

"What if I'm just good at faking it?"

[abrightboy]

Malcolm laughs.

"Sure," he says lightly. "That's a thing."

[bossyboiler]

"You're laughing at me?" Kate stands up. "Here I am with a genuine worry and concern that I'm a horrible person in disguise and you're sitting there laughing at me?"
