He might know what Will knows. He definitely has his access. Will suggested the Wardens’ Lounge. But. I don’t know. He didn’t seem interested in killing me. He has a victimology and I haven’t fit the profile yet. I’m more… I’ve only been able to talk to Will once so far, by communicator. I wish I could see him. You know?

[The notion brings up things he wishes it didn't; about how he'd lost Swamp Rat in the shuffle between the fucking boats and how part of him still longs for the comfort of her shed in times like this. He can remember the utter relief of that first time he'd seen her on the pier in Flotilla after all those years. Of course he understands.]

But ya know he wants ya to be safe. It's likely only the week.

[Surely, Malcolm can survive that long without Will's company.]

Yeah. No. Of course I know that. I want him to be safe, too. More than that, I want him to feel safe. He's never.... had that luxury in his life. I want to... just... always be giving him that gift. And if this is what helps him feel secure, then.... I can do it. But I miss him. Especially at night. Once you know what being warm feels like, it's difficult being cold again, you know what I mean?

[Sweeney's quiet for a long moment. The way Malcolm talks about it scrapes up old thoughts of Swamp Rat and her nightmares of him being ash and the rare times they'd held each other, even briefly. Now he has Laura to turn to, and he finds himself on her doorstep, even when he's not safe to be there. His voice is quieter than he wishes it was, and there's a faint edge of pain.]

Course I do.

[How could he not? He's just not so dependent that he sees a week worth the lamentation. Of course, when you're 6,000 years old, a week is a lot shorter than it is for most people. Sweeney's tone picks back up to something more casual.]

At least ya've got a place together. He'll have somewhere ta come home to, when he can.

[Malcolm smiles audibly.] Yeah. There's nothing that makes me happier than that. Nothing.

That kind of absolute is a tall order, but Sweeney knows Malcolm is in deep. He isn't sure what would happen if Will was ever kicked off.

An' at least there're comms so ya can do a bit'a the long distance thing.

[Malcolm doesn't know what he'd do if Will disappeared into oblivion. He clings to Will's assurance that he'll never leave him; that if he's taken he'll tear the universe apart to find him again. And Malcolm will attempt to do the same.]

Yeah. We've been talking. He just told me that someone pointed out he's denying himself comfort for no guarantees of providing safety. He's not going to sleep here but he's going to come home for a bit. That's great, right??
