Ulla slips into Malcolm's office, shutting the door behind her. She looks happy, so clearly whatever she's here to say isn't bad, she just wants to talk to him.

"Hello Malcolm. Are you busy, or can I ask you something?"

He looks up from a page of doodles on his desk, clearly pleased to see her.

"Please ask me something," he implores her with a grin.

As straightforward as ever, she asks him, "Would it bother you if I took your idea and made wedding jewelry for me and Taylor using our hair spun together?"

She wants his blessing before she does it. And she doesn't want to overstep onto anything he would rather keep unique to him and Will.

“Bother me? Oh! No. It would flatter me. To be honest…” He leans over the desk conspiratorially. “I kind of took the idea from Justine’s hair crafts. She mistook my questions about it as criticism and she was generally a cow about everything, so instead of commissioning them from her, I took the idea and brought it to you. And you did something way more amazing than I even pictured, so… best turn of events ever. So yeah. Are you thinking bracelets too, or something else?” he asks with interest.

"I'm not sure yet. I just like the thought. ...And it will be relevant sooner than expected, so I figured I'd best ask now."

...She means exactly what it sounds like. Wedding plans have suddenly become an immediate concern rather than a long-term one.

Malcolm's eyebrows go up.

"Wait... does that mean you've chosen a date? If you need help, I can help. I did most of our wedding planning."

From lining up catering to making his own (misspelled) invitations, he did it all!

"So let me know if there's anything you need done. I wanted to help more with John's wedding but it was kind of awkward because Sokie doesn't like me." He shrugs. It clearly bothers him much less than it once did. "I'm happy to do any of it, honestly."

She grins.

"Next month. Probably the first weekend of December." Good thing Ulla can speed through a lot of the preparations using spellwork. "We want Jasper to perform the ceremony, so it will be on the Barge. Taylor met a centuries-old version of me during the last flood. She saw how slowly I age with her own eyes. So she doesn't want to wait anymore, even if her family isn't on board."

She doesn't expect to need too much help. "I mostly needed your blessing for the jewelry. We can do most of it ourselves, except food. Papa would probably be willing to cook some, but we might have to cajole him into making something besides sweets. And I'll ask Aunt Istra for help with clothes, since she's familiar with more sorts of fabric than I am and Taylor wants to be standing in the sea when we're married. I suppose that means I'm making everyone's clothes."

“You could have a second ceremony for your family after you leave here,” Malcolm tells her. “That’s what Will and I are doing. At my mom’s house.”

He considers the rest,

“John would make food if you ask him. He loves to cook.”

"If we need to." But she doesn't ask favors lightly, and she doesn't know John as well as she'd like yet. She's already asked him one not long ago.

"Taylor's planning a party in Kiryu's world. I hope it's not too big. Crowds are exhausting."

“Yeah,” Malcolm agrees. “That’s why we designed ours with a quiet area. I hope we can come to the party on Kiryu’s world; I’d love to see everyone again.”
