The villa Malcolm rented was in the Languedoc, not far from Marseilles, south of Avignon. It was a very historic region, though Malcolm was particularly not interested in visiting Marseilles again. There was a charming village nearby the villa and if they were going to go to an historic city for a day, he'd rather make the trip over to Montpellier, where he'd never been at all, much less with Dr Whitly.

The villa had six bedrooms. As the driver brought their luggage inside the bright and spacious main room, Malcolm handed him some folded Euros and thanked him and shut the door behind him.

"First choice of a room is yours," he told Edrisa with a smile. "But you might want to explore first."

"My favourite dessert," he told her as it broke. He tilted his head towards the creme brulee. "Finish up; let's go for that walk."

"Gladly!" She gave him one more quick peck, then turned toward the table, picked up a spoon, and finished the creme brulee in a couple bites. Then she set down the spoon and sprang up, eagerly holding out her hands to him.

He took them, letting her pull him to his feet, then he interlaced the fingers of his good hand with hers as they headed out through the french doors.

It was a lovely night. He glanced around as they walked into the fragrant country air.

"You really can see the stars," he said.

She drew in a breath as they walked out into the darkness, gazing up at the stars in frank wonder.

"It's beautiful!" She breathed. She leaned into Malcolm, squeezing his hand. "God, it's been forever since I saw the Milky Way. Isn't it amazing?!"

He nodded. "Not sleeping won't be so bad with this view," he admitted. He looked at her. "It's going to be a nice, quiet week, I think."

She smiled and sighed contentedly. "After everything we've been through, that sounds just right."

She tugged on his hand. "Come on. Let's go down to the vineyard."

"Sure," he agreed easily. He would have gone anywhere she wanted to go, but that sounded fun.

It was dark and cool, the breeze rustling the grapevines like an ocean in the moonlight and carrying a sweet, ephemeral scent. Edrisa drew a deep breath, smelling the air.

"Do you smell that? What is that?"

He raised his eyebrows and paused, inhaling.

"It's Bloom," he said softly, like if he spoke any louder, he'd disturb it. "The grapes are flowering. You can only smell it for a very short time, in the spring."

"Wow," she breathed. "How amazing that we're here at the exact right time." She kept her voice low and reverent. All the bad things that had happened to them brought them to this one beautiful moment.

"I don't think I believe in omens, but this would be a good one, right?" he murmured.

"Definitely! It bodes well, I think." She flashed her eyebrows at him playfully. "Either that or the universe is making a beautiful but not so subtle reference to sex and reproduction."

"I think that's the most scientific sexual overture I've ever heard," he teased with a grin. He glanced around, then paused. "I mean. Not that I've heard many."

She grinned back, then kissed his cheek as he looked away.

"All the more reason to have sex outdoors," she said with a sly, amusingly sultry grin. Then she patted his arm and looked around. "You know...it's pretty dark out here...what better way to make love than under the stars surrounded by the scent of bloom?"

Malcolm took another look around, this time checking if anyone was there.

Then he looked at her. "...Really?" He glanced around where they were standing. "...Right here?" he asked, already feeling the warm roil of arousal in his stomach.

She turned to face him, taking both his hands in hers, her smile so bright it was practically glowing.

"Right here," she answered, quiet but with an undercurrent of excitement. No one would be able to see them. Maybe the chef would hear them, but really, she figured there had to be honeymooners at that villa fairly frequently. It was likely not something he hadn't encountered before.

He held her gaze for a moment, glanced over his shoulder one more time, then leaned in and kissed her, gently at first, but he soon let it consume his focus.

She kissed him back, then wrapped her arms around him, pressed her body to his, and deepened the kiss.

He opened up to it, holding her tight with his good arm wrapped around her waist, the fingertips of his broken hand resting lightly at her hip. Even just the friction of her body against his was turning him on more.

The friction, his warmth, the scent of his skin mingling with the scent of the grape blossoms, it was heady as the vineyard's wine, and Edrisa felt a little tipsy, and thirsted for more. One hand slid down his back to draw up his shirt, slipping beneath to touch bare skin.

Her touch was electric and the benefit of comfy clothes was they were simple: no layers, no buttons. He let his finger slide under her waistband.

Indeed, she wasn't even wearing underwear.

She made a small sound against his lips, then teased her own fingertips under the back of his waistband.

He hummed against her mouth, sliding his hand further down along the curve of soft skin.

He pulled back only a few inches from her mouth to ask a question.

"Do we just... do we just get down on the ground?" he asked breathlessly.

She pressed herself more firmly to him as his hand caressed her, sliding her own hand completely underneath his pants.

"I think so," she answered, just as breathless. She giggled a little. "I've never done this before."

Keeping his arm wrapped around her, he managed to manouevre them to the ground. He paused, then laid back on the ground himself so she came to rest on top of him.

"It's chilly," he explained, looking up at her. "Didn't seem gentlemanly to let you lie on it."
