...What does everybody else do? Like. If they're not... in a coven or working for the Emperor or... whatnot. What do regular people do in your world?

They're literally all in one coven or another! They don't - look, they can be normal, regular people, but if you're not a part of a coven, you're a 'wild' witch. And you have to be eliminated.

How do you make amends in your world?

You don't. You simply...agree not to kill each other any longer.

Well, you don’t want to kill them anymore, so why not make such a pact and secure your safety?

Because they may not agree to it, and luring me out on a false premise only to kill me is a very coven-like thing to do.

Then it isn't the very best system of atonement, is it? Maybe you could come up with something better than a constant cycle of betrayal and revenge.

"No one listens to me. Only when I'm a threat do they ever stop laughing behind their stupid fake faces."

"Maybe that's where we have to start doing serious work for your graduation," Malcolm tells her. "That anger. That resentment. Is that what made you want to be so high in Belos' service? Wanting to wipe the laughter off their stupid fake faces for good?" He raises his eyebrows slightly. "It would be very understandable, getting tired of being treated like a joke." He splays his hand on his own chest. "I do know."

She waits, to see if this is a trap to lure her in, before finally giving a slow nod.

"Yes." Kikimora admits, soft but dangerously. "I..don't get along with many of my fellow witches and demons. Most think size is attributable to power."

"I know that story, yeah. But... they're wrong. You obviously proved that much. So... what you actually want when you go home is just... respect. Respect as a being; respect as a witch."
